Bar Alert: Edgewater Update

See the original post here.

I spoke with a  person familiar with The Edgewater Lounge situation.  I was told the restaurant and bar were inspected by the City and given two weeks to shape up or face closure.  They were given a number of small violations to fix.  When the City returned the next week many were fixed and I was told the City found more violations.

Unfortunately, the City being so anxious to take tax dollars has not updated their inspection website since last summer so I have no way of confirming what I was told.  I am taking this story with a grain of salt until I can confirm this.

There is a sign saying they are closed for maintenance and apologizing for the inconvenience.  I am holding out hope the story above is wrong.  I doubt I will ever go back if they can not run a clean ship.  Crossing my fingers that there is not a disgusting explanation.

More information to come when I can get the office Health Department explanation.

  1. A couple things: 1) there is now a health department sign up in the window. Unfortunately, it doesn't give details. 2) If it was a "dusgusting explanation" it would have been closed immediately. They don't tend to give 2 week notices for things like rat droppings or infestations.

Here's hoping it is resolved quickly. I'm willing to give Edgewater Lounge a couple of dozen benefits of the doubt. I certainly want to go back.

  2. It was for a few small infractions, and they are taking the time they were forced to close to do some renovations. They'll be open in a few days.

  3. Actually, they DO give two weeks notice for rat droppings...depending on where they are found. If they are found on the floor than the establishment has a violation, but it takes several violations for an immediate shut down. The only things that can really shut you down right away are plumbing related things, especially not having hot water OR 3 or more major violations in one visit. Keep in mind that the cities definition of major may not be a big deal to most. You can also be shut down for minor violations if you have (I believe thus number is right) 6. Minor violations are things like not having plastic gloves in the kitchen, etc.

As far as Edgewater lounge goes I will go back if they are able to re-open. I think it's funny that people are so surprised by the closing. I mean it's not exactly a secret that the place is dumpy & kind of dirty. Still love it though.

  4. They could certainly fix the place up - I think it's a dump. The outside is shabby looking and falling apart. It looks like nothing has been done in many years. I would never think of eating there. I don't care what anyone raves about.
